I once saw a rose.
A beautiful, blood red flower
With petals the colored with the hues of the setting sun.
A red rhapsody
Of love and passion.
So beautiful, so perfect.
And yet,
So fragile.
She has no way to defend herself
Save for her two frail thorns.
No way to stay upright
But for her thin stem and weak roots.
I love this rose.
I want to take her away with me.
And yet,
I cannot move her from her place
For fear she might be hurt.
So,
I place a glass case over her.
To let in the sunlight, but keep out the rain.
I visit her every day,
To water her,
To care for her.
Because I love her.
But, the Fates are unkind.
One day, I came to visit my rose,
Only to find the glass shattered,
And the flower gone
gone
gone...
I know this was no accident.
I can still see the footprints
Around the shattered glass
Prints of an animal.
A foul beast
Who devoured my rose,
My poor little rose.
And my heart with her.
